Hola a todos!!!!!
Antes que nada, muchas gracias a aquellos que me han puesto al tanto de sus novedades y estado de los procesos en estos últimos días. Ha sido realmente muy interesante y estoy aprendiendo muchísimo del GEO Juvenil en la región. Ely y yo les agradecemos porque nos está ayudando a identificar necesidades y definir acciones a seguir. Les pido también que en próximos correos escriban con copia a ambas, tenemos tareas bien diferenciadas pero tratamos de mantenernos siempre al tanto de lo que hace la otra y lo que acontece en la región.
Hemos actualizado la lista GEO Juvenil. Agradezco a los que actualizaron sus datos y felicito a los que tomaron la iniciativa de ampliar la oportunidad a otros jóvenes líderes de sus organizaciones. Resta sumar referentes del Caribe, pero ya están trabajando en eso, y de Panamá pero han estado sumamente atareados con jornadas de limpieza. Cuando tenga la lista completa la vuelvo a enviar pero quisiera que todos revisen los datos que tenemos y avisen si hay algún error.
En relación a la Tercer Reunión Regional GEO Juvenil, la fecha finalmente ha sido fijada: 29/11 al 1/12. Como saben, la reunión tendrá lugar en Panamá, entre otros motivos para que puedan conocer las oficinas del PNUMA e interactuar con quienes trabajan allí. Nos hospedaremos en unas villas muy confortables, dentro de Ciudad del Saber (para los que como yo no sabían, esta es una zona donde hay varias construcciones, entre ellas numerosos organismos internacionales). Panamá Verde estará a cargo de la logística y tienen ya sobrada experiencia.
La agenda y toda la información correspondiente se irá enviando en breve, pero les adelanto que algunos temas que veremos serán:

§ Elaboración del Plan de Acción 2008-2010
§ Tecnologías de información y comunicación
§ Negociación y resolución de conflictos
§ Renovación generacional y sustentabilidad de los procesos
§ GEO-4
Necesitaremos que preparen algunas cosas para la reunión por lo cual les estaré avisando. Son sólo 3 días que debemos aprovechar al máximo y eso será posible si cada país trabaja previamente enviando lo que se necesita. En la reunión estaremos Elizabeth Osorio, Alicia Speratti y yo tratando de dar todo el apoyo que se necesita para la reunión en sí, pero a su vez buscando espacios para conversar caso por caso sobre sus procesos.
La lista de participantes aún está en revisión y los invitados se están definiendo caso por caso con cada país en forma separada. Aún así sepan que el 50% serán focales y coordinadores nacionales y el otro 50% serán personas “nuevas” que están fuertemente comprometidas con el GEO Juvenil en cada sitio y han demostrado que pueden asumir la responsabilidad. Esto responde a la necesidad de fortalecer las capacidades de toda la red, sobre todo de los más jóvenes, tanto como al deseo de brindar oportunidades a más personas cada año. En algunos casos puntuales deberán viajar focales por tener asuntos específicos que debemos resolver, pero agradeceríamos a todos los demás que dediquen sus mayores esfuerzos a la selección de sus representantes.
El tercer punto son los Talleres Subregionales TUNZA/GEO Juvenil que tendrán lugar en lo que resta del año. Específicamente Mesoamérica se reunirá en Costa Rica 25 y 26 de octubre; Andes se reunirá en Colombia entre 10 y 11 de Diciembre; y Cono Sur en Chile el 17 y 18 de diciembre. Allí estarán los jóvenes que participaron de la Conferencia Tunza en Leverkusen y algunos otros de GEO que están colaborando con Tunza. También la información va a llegar a cada país en particular.
Por último, les mando un abrazo enorme a todos. A los que no conozco espero pronto conocer y a todos los demás ¡¡¡¡muero de ganas de volver a verlos!!!!

First of all, let me thank all of those who have shared the state and progress of each GEO for Youth Process. It’s been very interesting and I’m learning a lot about our region. Ely and I would like to thank you because the information you provide is helping us identify needs and therefore decide courses of action. I ask you to please write all messages to the regional coordination copying both of us; because even though we have differentiated responsibilities we try to be aware of what is going on with all of you.
We have updated the mailing list of GEO for Youth e-group. I thank all of those you took the time to update their data and I congratulate those that included other young leaders from their organizations. We still need to add more representatives from Panama and the Caribbean. As soon as I have the complete list I’ll send it again. For now, please check the names, organizations and e-mails addresses to make sure they are ok.
Regarding the Third GEO for Youth Regional Meeting, the dates will be 29/11 to 1/12. As you all know, it will take place in Panama, among other reasons, so that you can all visit UNEPs offices and interact with the people working there. We will stay in a set of comfortable villages within the City of Knowledge, just a few blocks from UNEP. Panama Verde will be in charge of logistics since they have plenty of experience in this.
The final agenda will be sent shortly, but so that you know, some of the topics we will cover are:
§ Review of the state of the GEO for Youth in the region
§ Elaboration of the 2008-2010 Action Plan
§ Information and communication technologies
§ Negotiation and conflict resolution
§ Generational change and process sustainability
§ GEO-4
We need you to prepare a few thing for the Meeting but I’ll let your know in the following weeks. We only have 3 days and we need to use them to the fullest. That will require preparation in each country/subregion. During this important event Elizabeth Osorio, Alicia Speratti and I will be there to provide support for the meeting itself, but also to look for opportunities to talk to all of you, one by one, about your processes.
The list of participants is been prepared and discussed with each country/subregion separately. Even so, just so that you know, 50% of the participants will be national focal points or coordinators and the other 50% will be new people, proving to committed to GEO for Youth. This decision was taken to make sure that our capacity building efforts go beyond the country leaders, reaching especially the youngest. In some cases the focal point will participate due to specific issues we can only solve with them. In all other cases, we appreciate your efforts to select the most adequate candidates.
The third issue is the upcoming TUNZA/GEO for Youth Sub-regional Workshops that will take place in Costa Rica, Andean Region and Southern Cone. For those events we are inviting our young representatives to the TUNZA Youth International Conference, which took place this year in Leverkusen, as well as other GEO for Youth leaders who are also deeply involved with the Tunza Strategy. Information will be sent to each participant in the following weeks.
Finally, I want to send you all a big hug!!! I can’t wait to see you all again!
